Forsyth Tech Celebrates the Start of $7.3m Expansion at Transportation Technology Center

Forsyth Technical Community College celebrated the start of the expansion of its Transportation Technology Center, which will include a 22,000-square-foot addition and 8,000 square feet of renovated space. The expansion marks a significant step forward in equipping students with state-of-the-art facilities to meet the growing needs of the automotive, diesel, motorcycle and transportation industries.

During the program, Ken McDaniel, Principal and President at Michael Graves Architecture, and Travis Carter, a Forsyth Tech alumni, who now works at Christmas Construction, both spoke about the project, with Carter sharing his educational journey. Commissioner Martin also spoke, praising the positive impact that this will have on workforce and economic development for Forsyth County.

Forsyth Tech President Dr. Janet Spriggs also spoke, highlighting the vital role the new facilities will play in preparing students for the workforce. “Our new additions are more than just extra space,” said Dr. Spriggs. “They represent our commitment to providing first-class training environments where students can gain hands-on experience with the latest industry technology.”

Expansion Highlights Include:

  • Spacious Two-Bay Diesel Repair Area: This new area, along with a brand-new diesel repair shop, directly addresses the increased demand for skilled diesel technicians.
  • Advanced Wash Bay: A specially designed wash bay for diesel and automotive work ensures students can train in environments that mirror real-world conditions.
  • Custom Crane/Hoist System: One of the standout features in the diesel repair area is a custom-built crane and hoist system, giving students practical experience in handling large engines safely and efficiently.
  • 10-Bay Automotive Repair Area: An expansion of the existing space adds a 10-bay automotive repair area, providing more students with opportunities to train on industry-standard equipment.
  • State-of-the-Art Teaching Labs: Two teaching labs with integrated equipment areas have been designed to offer students enhanced learning experiences with the latest tools and technology.

These new features position Forsyth Tech as a leader in transportation and diesel training, offering programs that fully align with industry standards. The expansion not only increases capacity but also reaffirms the college’s mission to deliver top-tier education that directly impacts the local workforce.
